consequences of a DUI charge

Driving under the influence of alcohol/ drugs may land you into a lot of trouble. You may cause accidents as well as death if you drive under the influence of any intoxicating substance. In case of a DUI charge, a person may face the following consequences:

  • Loss of Job: If you have a DUI charge against you, then you may lose your job. Driving under the influence of alcohol is a crime. In most states, the laws are extremely strict. A person under the influence of alcohol is susceptible to danger/ mishaps. He is a threat to the pedestrians and anyone out on the streets. In order to avoid crime, most states impose heavy fines on the driver. The driver can thus lose his job. To avoid these punishments, people should at least make sure not to drive under the influence of alcohol.
  • Jail term: The most severe punishment for driving under the influence of alcohol/ drug is a jail sentence. Since it is a crime, this punishment is apt. Newspapers and television gives us numerous instances of road mishaps. Sometimes they cause so much damage that we cannot help, but feel sorry for the sad plight of the victim. Since these types of accidents can be avoided by being a little bit more careful, the state laws are deliberately made strict. It ensures that people maintain the law by driving with alcohol in their body below the toxicity level, else they would be sent to jail.
  • Loss of driver’s license: A driver who is under the influence of alcohol, may lose his license. If one is caught driving with more than the permitted level of alcohol in blood, then his/her license would be cancelled. In that case, a new license would be required for being able to legally drive again. All this is deliberately designed to punish the offenders who drive under the influence of alcohol.
  • Restricted interstate or international travel: It is yet another restriction imposed by the state on an offender. In case you are caught breaking the rule by driving under the influence of drug/ alcohol, then your driving permit in various states of the same country will be restricted. This can cause loss to businessmen, doctors and others who are required to move from one state to another, every now and then. Considering the dire consequences, people try to abide by the traffic rules. This reduces mishaps.
